Pheasant were introduced into New Zealand in the late 1900s by our early settlers as a game bird and through careful management are now plentiful in selected game estates. Our two species of pheasants are the Chinese Green or Mutant (unavailable in North America) and the Common Ring Neck.
Our shoots are walk up shoots where your guide will position you across the flight path of the pheasants as they are flushed from their cover by the guide’s hunting dogs.
Pheasant shooting is an exciting and challenging sport and a great way to finish off a successful hunting expedition in New Zealand.
New Zealand has a large duck and goose population that can be hunted between May and August each year. In nearby wetlands large numbers of various species of ducks and greater Canadian Geese use this area; NZTHL has the exclusive right of access for our hunters to this area.
Bag limits are liberal, in many districts around New Zealand allowing 50 ducks per day and unlimited geese.
All of these exciting optional hunts are fully guided by NZTHL guides and can be fitted into your big game hunt at an opportune time.

Fishing
New Zealand is one of the finest trout fishing destinations in the world. Each year, very big trout are caught by tourist fisherman. The principal species are Rainbow and Brown Trout and sea run Salmon. The central South Island where the main NZTHL hunting operation is situated is also in the heart of abundant trout fishing lakes and rivers. This creates the ideal opportunity to combine fishing with your hunting safari or to book a specialist trout fishing package with NZTHL for trophy fish. All of the NZTHL guides are skilled in fishing and enjoy exploring the region's hot spots for a "wall hanger" fish! |
